One of the best holiday traditions is riding in the car to see the Kansas City Christmas Lights, and Kansas City celebrates this tradition in a glamourous fashion. The city lights up the Plaza, Crown Center Square, Worlds of Fun, Powell. Gardens, Longview Lake, Liberty, Kingsville, Lee’s Summit, and many other places. It does not stop at lights, though; families enjoy viewing inflatables, lit trees, motorized figures, and even interactive displays which pair to the sounds of local radio stations.

Best Christmas Lights in Kansas City
In Kansas City, almost the entire city is blanketed in a coat of light. Driving into the city from the suburbs, guests are greeted with a flash of light from the Plaza, where every building, shop, and office are layered in holiday bulbs for 15 blocks. Regular and Christmas trees share the festive spirit and are decorated to share holiday cheer with all the patrons. This scene does not stop there; as you continue to drive downtown, you are met with more lights, guiding you to holiday enjoyment. Once you reach the heart of the city, you find the Mayor’s tree, standing 100 feet tall as a beacon to share holiday cheer with everyone and assist the city’s less fortunate.

Plaza Christmas Lights
The Country Club Plaza (“the Plaza’) is located across 15 blocks in the Country Club District of Kansas City, Missouri. It offers one of the most spectacular holiday displays in the region. On November 26, 2020, at 6:00 P.M., the Plaza came alive with holiday spirit and will stay that way until January 20, 2021. Guests may enjoy the holiday lights for free from 5:00 P.M. – 3:00 A.M. within this timeframe — so long as they remain socially distanced.
Mayor Christmas Tree
The Mayor’s Christmas Tree is located in the heart of downtown Kansas City, sitting in Crown Center. The Mayor’s Christmas tree will be lit, and Santa will depart on his horse-drawn carriage to his Gingerbread Station on November 20, 2020, at 6:00 P.M, and both the lights and Santa will stay in Crown Center until January 3, 2021. Viewing the Mayor’s Christmas Tree is free, but donations are welcome to support the less fortunate city. Below the Mayor’s Christmas Tree are activities such as Ice Skating, which has an admission price of $7 for adults and free for anyone over the age of 60 or 4 years of age or younger. Skate rental is $4.
Winterfest in Worlds of fun
Worlds of Fun, located in Northeast Kansas City, offers an enjoyable “Winterfest” experience for the Kansas City area. Unfortunately, Winterfest will not take place this year but will make an iconic comeback in November of 2021. Typically, Winterfest’s admission prices at Worlds of Fun are $38 for adults and $27 for juniors and seniors, but this is subject to change. Get Tickets HERE!
Christmas Lights In Kansas City Kansas
Legends Outlets puts its shoppers in the Holiday spirit by placing a 45-foot tree in the shopping outlets’ center. The outlet provides complimentary crafts, cider, and pictures with Santa, but most importantly, Legends light the entire shopping center crafting a winter wonderland for its shoppers. The Outlet center gives its customers light shows every 15 minutes during shopping hours through the Holiday season. Holiday shoppers can feel joy while getting their Holiday shopping done by visiting the Legends Outlets.
Legends Lighting
The Legends Lighting takes place in the Legends Outlets in Kansas City, Kansas. The Lighting typically occurs in November, but this year the outlets will do silent lighting and have the shopping center lit with the tree up throughout the Holiday season. Admission is free, which is good so that you can use that money on Holiday shopping!
Christmas Lights in Lenexa
A lovely stroll through a Holiday lit park on your way to Santa with complimentary hot cocoa in hand and carolers singing in the background is what guests experience in Lenexa. Lenexa offers its park to be decorated
with holiday cheer for the community. Lenexa also employs carolers to sing by Rose’s Pond and offers guests complimentary hot cocoa to enhance the Holiday experience.
Sar-Ko Aglow
Sar-Ko Aglow occurs at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park in Lenexa, Kansas. The park lights up on December 1, 2020, at 6:00 P.M., with guests watching from the parking lot. Admission is completely free to the public.

Holiday stars of Olathe — the Craig family Christmas Display: Penguin Playground. Penguins riding motorcycles, penguins in igloos, “March of the Penguins” projected, and playing on repeat will surely fix your need for playful holiday fun.

The Craig family’s “Penguin Playground” can be found at Mur-Len Road & Indian Creek Parkway in Olathe, Kansas. This display typically brings cheer from Thanksgiving to Christmas day. The Craig family puts this display up at no cost to the public, but donations to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society are more than welcome. Awesome Kansas City Christmas Lights!
Christmas Lights in Overland Park
In Overland Park, at “Christmas Place,” guests get the experience of driving through two cul-de-sacs draped in Holiday cheer on any chilly December evening with their significant other or family. Since this attraction is limited to two cul-de-sacs, guests have the luxury of stopping to admire each house in a quiet, peaceful environment. This Kansas City tradition begins November 25, 2020, through December 31, 2020, and is open each night from 5:30 P.M. to – 10:00 P.M. on weekdays and 5:30 P.M. – 11:00 P.M. on weekends. Christmas Lights in Kingsville
Kingsville creates a unique and botanical display for guests to experience a complete immersion into the Holiday cheer. Kingsville houses the “Festival of Lights,” where guests get out of their cars and are greeted by lighting displays acting like their peers for 25 acres. Interactive light displays captivate guests through the mile- a long walk through the Gardens, and the bulbs provide patrons with intricate backdrops for Holiday cards or even simple Instagram pictures.

Festival of Lights
The Festival of Lights is located in the Powell Gardens of Kingsville, Missouri. The Festival of Lights brightens. Kingsville on November 13, 2020, and will keep the city bright until January 3, 2021. Admission to the Festival of Lights is $12.00 per adult, $10.00 for Seniors, and $5.00 for children ages 5-12, with an option to add a parking pass or festival+ pack for $10.00. The Liberty Light Show occurs at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty, Missouri. The Light Show is life. Friday – Sunday, December 4-6, 2020, and December 11-13, 2020, at 6:00 P.M., 6:45 P.M., 7:30 P.M., 8:15 P.M., 9:00 P.M., and automated shows from December 14-23, 2020 from 6:00 P.M. – 11:00 P.M.
